Molly Singline
Wayiba, it is with great pleasure that I was elected member of the school board. With the students front of mind, I want to help make a positive impact on student outcomes and school performance. I can learn from being part of such a wonderful school. I want to be part of something big and influence the shaping of our future generation.
I have been part of the Pilbara and Gascoyne region for most of my life. I have great pleasure in calling Karratha my home. I have 2 wonderful children who attend Baynton West Primary, and I currently work for Rio Tinto as General Manager Pilbara Communities. It is so important to me that we help build a thriving community and be proud of where we live.
I can’t wait to support the school, staff, and parents as a member of the board.

As a former parent of 2 children who attended BWPS and as a former school board chair, I also chair the Waja Guma Partnership Group. This successful program continues to serve the community and helps to give our Aboriginal children the best educational start in life.
Marshall Lawerence
Marshall Lawrence is Commanding Officer of The Pilbara Regiment, based in Karratha. Many members of the Regiment have children at Baynton West Primary and Marshall’s wife Emily does relief teaching at several schools in Karratha, including Baynton West Primary. Being a member of the School Board allows him to contribute to the community and maintain strong connections and relationships throughout Karratha and the Pilbara.
Governance
One of the exciting things the principal of an Independent Public School can do is establish a school board whose elected members work with the principal and community to achieve the best outcomes for students.
The School Board helps to establish a vision for the school that reflects the aspirations and needs of the community. The board can have an important influence on the direction of the school, with members bringing ideas and lending their expertise to strategic planning, and community partnerships. Professional skills in areas such as management, finance, procurement, marketing and cultural knowledge support the principal and strengthen the school’s capacity to meet the needs of its students.
Elected members include parents, staff and members of the community. Students 15 years and over can be members. The Principal is a member of the board. A comprehensive induction is provided for all board members.
The Independent Public School board is a signatory to the Delivery and Performance Agreement with the principal and Director General. There is also an expectation that the board participates in the external review of the school that is undertaken by the Department of Education Services in the final year of the Delivery and Performance Agreement.
